Visit Me in Shetland
The Beach Road Workshop, Hoswick, Shetland, ZE2 9HL - 01950 431 230
Hoswick
Hoswick is one of Shetland's hidden gems - a picturesque coastal village on the east coast of Mainland Shetland combining stunning scenery, local craftsmanship, wildlife, and the kind of unhurried island atmosphere that's increasingly hard to find. Surrounded by rocky coastlines, sheltered beaches, and breathtaking sea views, it's an ideal stop for visitors exploring Shetland's south mainland.
Along the shore you'll find seals and otters, coastal walks rich in seabirds and wildflowers, and a collection of independent businesses rooted in Shetland's creative heritage. Hoswick is the kind of place that rewards those who venture a little further off the main road. My neighbours include Nielanell Contemporary Shetland Knitwear, Shetland Woolen Co, and the Hoswick Visitor Centre, and the village includes musicians, photographers, a playwright, visual artists, and a wealth of trades and craftspeople.
The Workshop Gallery
The Beach Road Workshop is where all of Karlin Anderson's jewellery is made. When you visit, you're stepping into a working studio - not just a shop. You'll see jewellery being made at the bench, and browse, try on, and hear the stories behind the collection pieces. If you're considering a bespoke piece, this is where those conversations happen in person.
The workshop displays every piece in the current collection, so a visit gives you the chance to see the work properly - to hold it, try it on, and understand the craft behind it in a way that photographs simply can't convey. The views out over Hoswick Bay and across to Levenwick are a beautiful added bonus!
Opening Hours & Planning Your Visit
Regular opening hours are 10am–5pm Monday to Friday, with Saturday opening in summer and in the run-up to Christmas. That said, Karlin is often at the bench earlier or later, and at weekends too - so if the sign on the front door says Open, do come in.
To make sure someone is available to welcome you, it's worth phoning or emailing ahead, particularly if you're travelling a distance or arriving as part of a tour. Karlin is always happy to see visitors and will make time for you.

Getting here
If you're visiting Shetland by cruise ship or as an independnt traveller, Hoswick is around 25 minutes by car south of Lerwick and well worth the detour.
Arriving by plane? The workshop sits roughly halfway between Sumburgh Airport and Lerwick - a natural stop on the road north.
There's also a regular bus service (the number 6) between Lerwick and Sumburgh that stops virtually at the door, making the workshop easily accessible without a car.
